Counseling

The school counselor provides day-to-day services for children, including:

  • Helping students deal with crises in the family or at school

  • Helping the disaffected child learn how to fit in

  • Motivating students toward better academic achievement

  • Preventing student behavior problems in school, on the buses, and at home

  • Teaching students impulse control, resolving problems without violence, and solving age-related development problems

  • Helping students to cope with school issues relating to peers, teacher demands, school rules, and group relationships

  • Assisting students in preventing improper choices with regard to use of drugs, alcohol, sexual activity, and tobacco

  • Helping students to deal with depression and suicidal tendencies

  • Providing group instruction in Skills For Growing and other proven programs of high quality

  • Assisting parents in resolving student and family problems
