7th Grade ELA
This year, 7th grade ELA will focus on the literary genres of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and drama. Students will read: The Outsiders by S.E. Heston, Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman, The Giver by Lois Lowry, a selection from The Diary of Anne Frank by Anne Frank, and Jefferson’s Sons by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley, and they will have units on short stories, William Shakespeare, and Edgar Allan Poe. Writing-wise, 7th grade English students will focus on expository, persuasive, narrative, and creative writing forms throughout the course of the school year as they interact and engage with the above texts.

8th Grade ELA
As students enter 8th grade Language Arts, they will delve deeper into the literary genres (fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and drama) as they explore literary theme. This year, students will read: To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie, A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, and Night by Elie Wiesel. Additionally, 8th Graders, will engage in poetry and short story units. While exploring these various texts and units, students will write persuasively, exploratorily, narratively, descriptively, and creatively to analyze these pieces of writing.
