Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year in second grade! Thank you for visiting my class website. I am looking forward to being your child's teacher this year and getting to know all of you. This is my 15th year teaching at Valley View School. I feel fortunate to be doing what I love, working with children, in the township where I live. Get ready for an exciting year of learning!

What we are learning this week:
Fundations - Unit 4: This unit is 2 weeks long and reviews suffixes -s, -es, -ed, and -ing. I will also be introducing -er and -est. New vowel teams will also be introduced in this unit (oa, ow, ou, oo, ue, ew, oe).
Trick Words - again, please, animal, sure, used, use
*Assessment: Friday, November 2nd.

Math - Topic 3: Subtraction Strategies
*Assessment: Thursday, October 25th

Science - Solids and Liquids
This week we will explore liquids and their properties.

Grammar - Identifying telling parts of sentences or predicates.

Reading Workshop - Story: "The Stories Julien Tells" by Ann Cameron
Genre: Realistic Fiction
Skill: Author's Purpose
Vocabulary - mustache, fastened, beyone, cartwheel, seriously, collection
Quiz: Friday, October 26th.

Writing Workshop - Narrative Writing

Reading - Read for at least 10 minutes and record your minutes on your reading log to hand in on Friday.

Tuesday, 10/23
Fundations - Follow the directions for dictation for Tuesday night.
- Practice your trick word cards.
Math - Practice your Rocket Math level sheet orally for 5 minutes if it comes home with you tonight.
Reading - Read for at least 10 minutes and record your minutes on your reading log to hand in Friday.
- Practice your vocabulary cards.

Wednesday, 10/24
